The place is called Jagannath Dham…Placed on the Seashore in Puri of the indian State in Orissa the place is the mucca of all Hindus all over india. In their terms the Hindus call this place as one of the 4 sacred Dham (Places) for them over the universe. Placed here is the wooden made huge statues of three lords ( Lord Jagannath(an avatar of Lord Krishna),his elder Brother Balabhadra (An avatar of DAU Bhaiya) and his sister Devi Subhadra…the importance of the place and the lords is so vast and so spread that it is being very difficult for me to find out the starting point… I am starting with the ancient tales related to the establishment of the temple and the lords…
the true tale …

Once there was a king called Indradyumna in the ancient land of Orissa. He along with his wife were great devotees of the lord Vishnu and he had few principles in his daily life too for the lord for which he has made great sacrifices. Indradyumna was a true Devotee and a socially popular king for his good governance in his state. He prayed the almighty lord Vishnu to allow him to serve him forever and he prayed the lord to be in his state. He then started building a huge temple in his state and on the verge of finishing the temple he was a worried man again as now he had to establish the statues of the lord and he wanted the lord to be there in person. When his prayers were left unheard he sat on a log of wood and started to end his life then lord refrained him from his act and asked him to go to his palace with assurance that he will help him.One midnight he dreamed of his lord Vishnu and he woke up in the midnight. When asked by his wife he said his Lord Came into his Dream and said that there are three logs of Neem Wood in the seashore and the lord asked him to get the logs out of the sea and place them in a newly built temple. Then the king went to the seashore in the midnight and was surprised to see the neem logs (DARU). He then arranged puja for the logs and carried the logs to the newly built Temple. The next morning after offering puja to the Neem daru’s his skilled carpenters tried to shape the logs but they were unable to put a mark on it. Again the lord has never seen a picture of the Lord so he was again disheartened worrying how to shape up the logs to Statues. The king announced prize money to the carpenter who can form statues from the logs. After that people from various kingdoms and places came to prove their mastery in the art but nobody was able to put a mark on the logs. Again he tried to finish his life and then suddenly a voice from heaven was heared by the King saying that soon there will be someone who will form the statue of the Lord. Then the very next morning a old man with his tolls reached the kings palace and said i am ready to form the statues. With a little hope the king allowed the old man to touch the wood log the old man then punched his nails in the log to try out the hardness and to everybody’s surprise the wood log was so soft that it was marked by the nail bite of the old man whereas skilled men could not put a mark on It. Now the happy king was convinced that the old man can create the statues. But he old man put hew terms and conditions for the same. He said “i will take 11days to do my job but i don’t want anybody to disturb me during that time.I want the doors of the temple to be shut down till the end of the 11 days and if the doors are opened before the 11 days then for what will happen I won’t be responsible for.” The King agreed to all his terms and conditions and allowed him to be inside the temple along with the wood logs. for the first threedays everybody was able listen to the noise from inside the temple and satisfied with the proceedings. But the queen was much curious about all the proceedings as she doubted weather the old man will be able to complete the task or not. On the fifth day the noise was little less and on the 7th day it was much less.So the queen was worried and anxious enough to know what is happening inside the temple. On 9th day she did not hear anything from the temple and with a doubt that if the old carpenter might have died she along with one of her friends opened the doors without the permission of the King. To her surprise as per the terms and conditions of the old carpenter she found half made three statues but she did not find the old carpenter. The king when informed about all the proceedings then he was a terrified man and rushed to the temple. He was totally lost to see the half made statues of his beloved Lord. In disgrace he blamed his queen a lot and prayed the Lord to forgive her and answer the next proceedings. Then a heavenly voice announced that those statues were of Lord Jagannat,Balabhadra & Subhadra and his supreme shastra the Sudarshan Chakra and the oldman was the supreme divine carpenter,Vishwakarma. The King was overwhelmed by the grace of his beloved god and thanked him a lot. In this way the present day statues of the Lord Jagannth , Balabhadra and Subhadra
